Bexley Invicta FC dedicates match to Football v Homophobia’s ‘Month of Action’

On Sunday 26 February 2017, Bexley Invicta FC will hold their first ever dedicated match in support of the Football v Homophobia (“F v H”) campaign during its Month of Action. The opponents on the day, Romans Manor House FC will also join in with their support. The teams will be having a pre-match joint photograph with plenty of F v H t-shirts on display in a show of solidarity for such a worthwhile cause!

The F v H campaign is an international campaign, to tackle homophobia and prejudice against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT+) people in football. February is the official ‘Month of Action’ with many professional and non-professional football clubs hosting ‘dedicated’ matches, tournaments and events throughout the month.

Bexley Invicta FC player-manager, Gary Ginnaw said “I’m excited by the prospect of having our first ever officially dedicated Football v Homophobia match! I’m also thrilled that our Opponents, Romans Manor House FC have agreed to join us in a show of solidarity and support for the Football v Homophobia campaign during its official Month of Action”.

Gary went on to say “To me, football is football – regardless of sexual orientation! Everyone should be allowed to play football in a safe and comfortable environment. Our Club is totally inclusive and we aim to make a stand and lead the fight against homophobia in football. This match marks an important occasion as players, both straight and gay, stand side by side, as with any other Bexley Invicta FC match in support of one another!”

Football v Homophobia Director, Louise Englefield said “We’re hugely grateful to have the support of Bexley Invicta FC for our February 2017 Month of Action. The club has been a great ambassador for the campaign and our message that football is for everyone”.

The match will take place at the Charlton Athletic FC Training Ground and promises to be an eventful occasion – watch out for plenty of post-match photographs along with the official score and match report!
